The motivation to look at other roles can come from almost anywhere, but the inclination to consider a new job is a sign your needs are not being met at work. What does that look like?
"I am a bit worried" she said. Beginning any new job is naturally slightly angsty, and without the benefit of learning via osmosis onsite, not knowing whether we're on track with employer expectations and style just adds to the stress. Onboarding, whether in person or done remotely, is a key opportunity for employers and employees to set the tone for the rest of their career journey together. "Is it ok for me to ask them this?" Yes, it totally is. Here are 3 ways savvy new employees are taking advantage of this new frontier to own their career for years…
thought about what I wanted for my clients, I wanted everything for them. Whatever it was that would give them joy in their careers and the unwavering belief that they could have a meaningful, sustainable career without limits. I wanted them to have “all the good stuff”. Learning is the lifeblood of engaged employment.
No matter how well prepared you may be, you won’t be able to show off that preparation and be agile to their questions and changing reactions if your mind is tired and frayed.
When I doubt everything about my ability, I do not doubt what I know about career navigation and what the labour market rewards. It rewards intuition, connection, problem solving, fortitude, and people over process. More than anything, it rewards you reaching down deep and grabbing hold of your inner most values and drivers, and courteously yet confidently living them.
It’s the expression of my truest values out there in the world: People deserve dignity at work, and they should be empowered to make the best career choices for themselves. This is the bedrock on which Career for Years has been built, it is its mission and guiding principle. It is a wake up call.
